The ACE and the community
The ACE tailors to our community education and training system to meet industry needs and develop the industry overall capabilities. It contributes to the creation of high quality jobs and increases Victoria position as the leader of automotive technology development and a hub for major industry events, investments and exports.
Since its inception, the ACE has been recognised in the industry (and beyond) as a leader in innovative and sustainable design. The environmental impact of the centre has been factored into the design and construction. Every aspect of the building clearly reflects the clean and green future of the automotive industry.
The design of the ACE is predicted to achieve greenhouse gas emissions of 471 tonnes per annum, a significant reduction in CO2 output for an average building of this size and purpose. Symbolically, it equates to the planting of 3297 trees per year.
There is a BATISO system installed in the building which uses hydroponic pipes embedded in the concrete floors slabs to enable efficient cooling and heating. A rainwater system is also installed which provides 130,000 litres of water for toilet flushing, irrigation and mechanical services. This results in a significant saving on water use.
In addition to these features, there is a night sky cooling system, natural ventilation and night purge, solar photovoltaic cells (to further reduce the ACE carbon footprint), as well as occupancy light sensors.
It is no surprise then that the ACE building has achieved a 5-Star Green Star Rating by the Green Building Council of Australia and the Vic Urban Award of Excellence.
