EPA Covenant

Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Covenant

In 2002, Kangan Institute became the first Victorian TAFE Institute to attain ISO 14002 Environmental Management System certification.

In June 2004, Kangan Institute and the Environment Protection Authority entered into a voluntary three year Sustainability Covenant in which both parties agreed:

"...to put in place a framework to enable Kangan Institute to increase the efficiency with which it uses resources to produce its products and services and to deliver products and services which contribute to the reduction of the ecological impacts of its clients and stakeholders."

The EPA signed the covenant in the belief that:

"...it is likely to be effective in increasing resource use efficiency and reducing the ecological impact of the vocational education and training sector..."

This makes Kangan Institute the first educational institution in Victoria, and one of only a few companies and organisations in the state, to have successfully planned and negotiated environmental performance at this level.
