ACE backed in industry report

15 September 2005

A report by Automotive Industry Strategic Action Group (AISAG) titled ‘Support for the Automotive Manufacturing Industry through ACE and Related Initiatives’ has recently been made public.

Chaired by Ivan Deveson AO, the AISAG board members consist of senior executives in the training sector and the automotive and manufacturing industry. Ray Griffiths and Phill Murphy are also board members.

The ACE is a key focus of this report. It outlines how important this facility will be in strengthening the automotive industry to meet future global challenges.

The report outlines the strong support given to the ACE by the automotive industry and the government because it will provide an integrated approach to the education and training of people in a facility focused on R&D and promotion outcomes.

This report acknowledges that ACE could assist the industry in three key areas:

  • Product and Process Innovation
  • People Education and Training
  • Promotion and Communication

The report stresses the need for the automotive industry to coordinate initiatives to strengthen its capabilities against a backdrop of increasing imports and concerns around automotive manufacturing survival. Seventy per cent of the nation's vehicles are imported rather than being made locally.

The AISAG report, which was jointly funded by the Victorian Government and the Federation of Automotive Products Manufacturers (FAPM), has now been posted on both of these websites. While it is quite lengthy there is an executive summary and the report is an interesting read for anyone wanting to know more about what is planned for the ACE.

In addition to the recommendations on ACE there is also AISAG's seven point action program to better protect the industry , including recommendations on industry leadership, supplier development, education & training, positioning, innovation, promotion and communication, and policy.
