The ACE and PPG – A Great Partnership
Wednesday 21 May 2008
The importance of strong industry partnerships at Kangan Batman TAFE's Automotive Centre of Excellence was highlighted at the TAFE Innovation Showcase held in May 2008.
The annual event, held at Victoria University's Conference Centre in Sunshine, showcases state-wide examples of how TAFE institutions have developed new ways to deliver skills needed by industry/community, through the Innovation Fund and other government funded initiatives.
Paul Galea, PPG Industries Australia Pty Ltd's Director of Sales and Marketing Refinish, was invited as a guest speaker at the showcase to talk about the relationship between PPG and the ACE, and how the partnership continues to provide benefits for all stakeholders.
His presentation highlighted many of the key areas of the partnership, including opportunities for industry, for the company, for the Institute and for students including;
- PPG has seen great benefit in supporting the ACE, with the Institute's clear vision, detailed business model and focus on returning value to PPG key factors in the establishment of the partnership.
- With opportunities to use the ACE for product launches, industry showcases and to host international visitors, PPG is reaping the rewards of a vital link to the ACE's state-of-the-art construction and award-winning design.
- From a training perspective, PPG's partnership with the ACE is also helping to address skills shortages by attracting motivated students with an attractive, first-choice career option.
- Recognising a need to actively build industry skills for its own future success, PPG's business plan incorporates the belief that poor work skills reflect on product quality and image, pushing the need for accessible training options with leading-edge facilities.
In concluding, Paul reflected on PPG's commitments to the training system have been re-invigorated with the ACE partnership.
