Kangan Batman TAFE motorsports students were living life in the fast lane last weekend as the third round of the Victorian State Circuit Racing Championship got underway.
The students were providing important tech support for Matthew Brabham's Formula Ford debut, helping him to an impressive first performance on the Sandown track.
As the grandson of legendary driver Sir Jack Brabham, Matthew had high hopes going into the race, and didn't disappoint with a credible 15th place finish.
Kangan Batman TAFE motorsport project coordinator Greg Moulden said his team had spent the past two months organising the new Formula Ford Australian built Spectrum 011C race car for Matthew.
"We've worked in close partnership with Minda Motorsport to get Matthew's car to a competitive level, and we were all really excited to see him do well in his debut race," he said.
"Our students gained valuable hands-on experience, and had the opportunity to see how the motorsports industry operates both off and on the track."
Kangan Batman TAFE's motorsports program is strengthened by partnerships with a range of influential companies in the industry, including Minda Motorsport.
"These partnerships are such an important part of how we deliver up-to-date training to our students," Greg said.
"We're also really excited about establishing a firm relationship with Matthew and look forward to watching him excel in his sport."
Bruin Beasley, CEO of Minda Motorsport, said he was also anticipating great things from the combined talents of Matthew's driving skills, Kangan Batman TAFE's technical capabilities and Minda Motorsport's support.
"We're really honoured that the Brabham family has allowed our company and Kangan Batman TAFE to guide Matthew on his journey to hopefully follow his grandfather Sir Jack to Formula One," he said.
Matthew's next race for the team will be at Round 4 of the Victorian State Series held at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit on September 27.
