Motorsport students show off hands-on skills

Secondary students learn the ropes from our motorsport students

Three passionate motorsport students recently joined their teacher Greg Moulden at the Moonee Valley LLEN & Maribyrnong City Council’s Try a Trade Day, where they guided budding learners in a wheel tightening activity.

The day was attended by over 500 secondary students eager to explore their training options, with the team’s wheel tightening activity proving to be immensely popular.

Thomas Peters was one of our students hosting the activity.

“It’s a lot of fun for the kids as they get to see what it’s like or at least get a glimpse of what we do at the Docklands campus,” he said.

Currently undertaking the Certificate II in Motorsport Technology, Thomas highlighted the value of the course’s strong motorsport focus.

“I’m really enjoying it. We get to do a wide variety of things and the best thing is, because it’s a motorsport course everything is angled at motorsport, so we would learn how to fix a car ordinarily and learn how to specifically fix the racing version of it,” he said.

Thomas aspires to work in either a performance motorsport garage or within a motorsport team. He highlights Kangan Institute’s partnership with Nissan Motorsport as an opportunity for students to undertake an internship and advance into the field.

“The certificate II is either on campus at Docklands or you can do an internship at a race team and learn how to do everything on the job,” he said.
